Macmillan Distribution (MDL) has a long history as part of the Macmillan Publishing Group and from this comes a wealth of experience and knowledge in our people.

In 2017/18 MDL embarked on an internal change programme under the leadership of Guy Browning, Managing Director.

This programme provided an opportunity to re-purpose areas of the business and take an in-depth look at our culture and processes, to ensure that alongside our heritage and experience, the business is structured and positioned to cope with the full demands of the modern publishing and retail supply chains.

We are extremely proud of the results of this work which has reinforced our position as an industry leading distribution business with first class operational and services teams.  We routinely request feedback from our publishers and customers to ensure these standards are met.

Our mission is to deliver excellent service to our publishers and customers by creating an environment where everyone can fulfil their potential and be their best.

  • I work as a Health and Safety Advisor and have been with MDL since 2003. I support the site with any health and safety issues and enjoy the variety and challenges of my role.

About us —

Our heritage

Macmillan Publishers group of companies has a rich history in the book industry, which spans almost 200 years and began in 1843 with brothers Daniel and Alexander Macmillan opening their first bookshop at 57 Aldersgate Street, London. At that time, Daniel Macmillan wrote to a friend and advisor to say: “I thought it worthwhile to plant a seed”. The business continued to grow over the decades, publishing such notable authors as Charles Kingsley, Christina Rossetti, Lewis Carroll and Rudyard Kipling.

Today Macmillan publishes and distributes worldwide a broad range of quality works, including award-winning fiction and non-fiction, plus inspired and much-loved children’s books.
