How does print on demand (aka manufacture on demand) work?

There are some books which sell slowly but which we want to keep available. The technology now enables us to print single copies of these titles whereas, in the past, we would have waited until a sufficient number of dues enabled us to do a short-run reprint. This could have been a matter of months or even a year.

Now, we can reprint books using digital technology so that a single order for one copy of a book can mean that a customer will receive the copy within a matter of weeks.

The content is exactly the same as in the original book and the same ISBN is used. The only difference between the original printing and the on-demand copy is a smart standard printed case bearing the title of the book.

Orders for print on demand titles go through Customer Services.   (See How to Order.)  When ordering a title the customer will be told if it is available 'on demand'.

I have a query about payment.

Customers with queries about payment should email Tracy Cornell (if they are based in the UK) and Andrew Garrod (if they are based outside the UK).
